avi footage couldn't handle AVCHD but I have to say I find PD incredibly clunky by comparison. I had to move to PD because the editor I used to use for my SD.

Beginners, novices, noobs Let me have thy ears and thou shalt enter into The wondrous world of video editing It’s time to get our video editing basics 101 on Let’s jump right into it First thing you need to do Is you need to set up your project You need to make sure that you set your project up To match the video files that you’re going to be placing into the program So you wanna go up here to this cog click on it Stay in the General tab And what we want to focus on here Is our timeline frame rate This is the most important thing Click on this and you get to select between 24 fps 25 if you’re in PAL zone If you’re in NTSC land Like United States and all of that Then you pick one that has NTSC But you get to pick your different frame rates here I’m using clips that are 29.97 fps So I’m gonna go with 30 fps Once you select that click on OK Now let’s stay in the Edit tab And we’re gonna focus on a few parts of the Edit tab We’re gonna focus on the media library or the media window, the timeline, and we’re gonna focus on the preview window Alright, now the preview window You get to see everything that’s either in your media library or things that you have down in the timeline So let’s import a few quick files here To import files you can click on the Import Media button That’s the quick and easy way Or you can go to file Go to import And you can choose how you want to import Now there’s different things you can import As you can see you can import files from your computer or you can import a whole folder You can get things from the cloud From DirectorZone and you can go grab your photos off of Flickr Let’s go to import some media files So I’m gonna click on this Now you get to select the folder that you wanna go to And you can select a file by just left clicking on it And then you can click on Open And if you wanna import multiple items You can import a whole folder or If you just want some things from that folder You click on Import Media Files Find your folder And you can select the files by giving them a left click And holding down the control key on your keyboard And just pick one at a time And when you’re finished selecting them You just click on Open Now that the files have been added to the Media Library We got some options here You can go ahead and Drag an item down to the timeline By just left clicking on it and dragging it down Or you can right click on it and put insert on selected track Which is track one right now Or you can just click on it And click on this insert on selected track button here I’m gonna click on this button Now it says there’s a Timeline Frame Rate Conflict PowerDirector’s kinda smart It tells you when those things happen Now this clip is 29.Quote: To move all the clips to fill the gap before the clip you want to move, shrink the timeline (small clock symbol), rectangle-slect the clips with your mouse on the timeline, de-shrink the timeline (large clock) and then drag the selection to the point you need.
